How I Have Experienced Lavender Essential Oil

So this is how I've experienced lavender essential oil and how it has helped me personally! I love this essential oil and how amazing it really is.

First, here is some information on lavender essential oil.... Lavender is known for it's soothing, floral aroma. It is very gentle and one of the most popular essential oil available. Great for your skin and your emotions, this essential oil is used for so many things!

Lavender can be worn as perfume, diffused or inhaled directly, you can add it to a bath to aid in relaxation. Lavender can help with relaxation and better sleep.

There is information on the bottle of how to use and how many drops, but there is more information I have or that you can find out there on ways to use lavender essential oil.

How you can use Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential can be used in your diffuser, it can be applied topically, it can be added to your bath water and so much more, Oh my, I love this oil.

I am still learning about all the amazing benefits of essential oils, but there are a few things that I have noticed specifically with the lavender essential oil!

How Lavender Essential Oil can Relieve Stress

I have found that lavender essential oil is great for relieving my stress levels and leaving me with a nice calming feeling.

If you have been following my blog then you have read before, I have issues with Stress - it comes with the territory of struggling with Depression and Anxiety, right.  The day I got my Premium Starter Kit from Young Living I started diffusing using the lavender essential oil.

Diffusing with Lavender Essential Oil

I was so excited to use the lavender oil in my diffuser and I know if you deal with stress, you'll be excited to try it to.

Following the instructions for your diffuser, add lavender essential oil to the diffuser. We started with 8 drops but that was just a bit too much. Lavender is wonderful and smells great but you can use too much in your diffuser. Now we use 3 - 4 drops which is perfect for us.

For me, it really helped me relax and relieve my stress. I remember telling Ryan (my husband) one evening, as we were sitting on the couch, that I felt weird, like a little fuzzy feeling, he was like, "probably because you are relaxed, and you are not used to being relaxed!", haha - we both started cracking up laughing. It was true though, I was relaxed, I just felt peaceful in my mind.

Here are a few other ways I have used lavender essential oil. If you have already performed a patch test and if you should have sensitive skin, you can add the lavender oil to a carrier oil prior to use.

Adding Lavender to the Bath

I have used lavender essential oil in the bath and I absolutely love soaking in the tub, especially at the end of the day when I need to wind down.

You can add about 7 - 8 drops to the bath. Swish it around and enjoy your soak.

Using Lavender as a Perfume

I love using lavender as a perfume. My skin is not sensitive to this oil so I put a drop on my wrist and rub them together.

Lavender is one of the oils that can be applied neat, not a lot mind you just a little goes a long way. If you do not want to use your oil neat or if you have sensitive skin, you can make yourself a roll-on perfume.

Lavender Roll-on Perfume

Fill a glass roll-on bottle with the following:

Shake before use and roll-on wrists. If you don't want to use the rosehip or jojoba carrier oil but just the coconut oil, start with 6 drops lavender and test this to see if you want to add more or not.

Using Lavender Essential Oil in a Diffuser Necklace

I have also used lavender in my diffuser necklace, which is another thing I absolutely love using with my essential oils.

For my necklace, I use just a few drops lavender and wear it for peace of mind.

I did that once when I went to one of my counseling sessions and I was super relaxed!

Lavender has so many uses, uses I will be exploring and sharing more with you! These are just a few ways I have used lavender and I have noticed it helps me with my stress and anxiety. I think maybe - it has even calmed my dogs - hahaha.

Here Is What My Aunt Had to Say about Lavender

My Aunt Mistie shared with me what she experienced when she used lavender essential oil to spritz her sheets, "I put some lavender and water in a spray bottle and sprayed some on my pillows and sheets", apparently she slept very good and what she had to say about getting some good sleep, "I think I should only do that on the weekend, I was sleeping so good, I wasn't getting up in time in the morning to bring my daughter to school!"

Homemade Lavender Spritz for Your Sheets

In a spray bottle start with:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil

Now the number of drops can be adjusted higher or lower depending on your likes, but 10 is a good starting point to use with the 1 cup of water. Shake well before spritzing your pillow case and sheets. Sleep well.

Here is a FUN FACT about Lavender Essential Oil:

"It takes 27 square feet of lavender plants - to make ONE 15ml bottle of lavender oil"..... WOW!

Performing a Patch Test and a Few Safety Tips.

If you are new or not sure how a blend or essential oil may react on your skin, it is always recommended to do a patch test prior to use. To do this, mix 2 drops essential oil to about 1/2 teaspoon carrier oil then apply to a patch of skin such as the forearm. Observe that area over the next 1 to 2 hours for any noticeable reaction; this will usually occur within 5-10 minutes. If you experience any irritation or discomfort either stop using or adjust the amount of essential oils you've used.

If you have not used a carrier oil before, you can also perform a patch test to the inner arm area.

Prior to using essential oils, always check the label for appropriate usage and do not apply essential oil to sensitive areas like the eyes, ears, and mucous membranes. If you have a medical condition and/or you are taking medications, consult your physician prior to use.
